If you haven’t heard, President Obama has started his own Twitter handle, @POTUS, which stands for “President of the United States”.
He just ran his first Twitter chat, tracked by the hashtag #AskPOTUS, which entertained all kinds of questions from politics, to sports to shoes.
Why does this matter?
Traditionally, the president’s Twitter handle has been, well, handled by his staff.
This is the first time our president has been allowed his own handle with his own tweets.
A new level of transparency has been introduced in the White House, as is the trend we’re seeing with leaders in general and social media (see last week’s social media tip).
It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
